Financial Literacy” is a tool that is important to all, and developing those finance skills at an early age can set a child up for success and give them a leg up when it comes to their future. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s “Welcome to the Real World” program aims to provide youth with the tools, knowledge, and behaviors necessary to move towards financial understanding, confidence, and independence. Join Chris Coon, Bosque County Extension Agent for Family and Community Health, and the Valley Mills Public Library for this four session program that will include topics such as:

-Banking options

-Budgeting

-Personal savings

-Cash management

The program culminates in an interactive simulation of the real world: youth will be assigned a career, a salary, and will have to use those tools and skills gained to navigate a month’s worth of bills and choices. This program is provided at no cost by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Valley Mills Public Library. For more information contact The library at 254-932-6370.

Samuel  Shelton will be offering  2 oil painting classes at the library. One will be on  August 30th and the other will be on September 27th.

You will paint a still from a reference photo that  Samuel will provide. You  will need to get a few supplies. The time will be about 5 hours. Samuel will provide the paint but each person will need to come with their own easel, baby food jar cleaned out, paper towels, and a #3 and #6 brush from
Jerry’s Artarama (click here to visit the official site).

Click here to purchase a proportional divider and click here to select a flat palette for mixing colors (wood palette works good or grey toned pallet)

Lastly you will need 12×16 gray toned panel. They come in three pack, but are very inexpensive. Here is the link to purchase.

Art Classes

The Valley Mills Library Association was given a grant October 2020-October 2021 by the Ladd  and  Katherine Hancher Library Foundation to implement a project called “Back to the Drawing Board.” We are now trying to find a new grant and other funding at this time.

This project offers art courses and help give some relief during these stressful times. Be looking for new dates and times for these artists to offer courses in the future.
